As part of their STEM topic, Primary 6 pupils have been conducting a series of exciting experiments to explore scientific concepts in action. Last week, they carried out the popular Coke and Mentos experiment, where they observed the dramatic reaction between the two substances. After the experiment, the children applied their literacy skills by writing detailed explanations of the process. In their literacy lessons, they have been focusing on the features of explanation writing, such as clear structure, logical sequencing, and the use of appropriate technical vocabulary. They were able to incorporate all of these elements into their own written work, demonstrating a strong understanding of both scientific principles and the craft of effective explanation writing.
