Continuing on with our January topic ‘Winter’, the boys and girls are showing a huge interest in the Arctic and how the Arctic animals stay warm.
The children know now that polar bears have blubber to keep them warm, so today we tested out how ‘blubber’ works to keep the polar bears warm. We used water trays filled with ice and cold water, a bag filled with lard and an empty one. The children enjoyed the texture of the lard filled bag which represented the ‘blubber’ and we discussed how that kept their hands warmer when in the freezing cold water 🥶👏.
