We had our parent autism support group ‘Oak Tree’ in this afternoon to enjoy an afternoon of sensory circuits with their children. We also had a visit from Amy from COS- Circle of Support to chat to our parents about their service and provision they offer. We also introduced our new Verbal Arts program ‘BEST- Building Emotional Strength Through Storytelling to our parents. The aim of BEST is to enhance understanding and awareness of ASD within mainstream schools by tackling misconceptions, stigmatisation and social isolation through the medium of storytelling. We will roll this program out to our P1/2 children, over six weeks we will use a combination of storytelling and targeted conversation to help build resilience and emotional coping skills. We all had a great afternoon together.
