Another week, another fantastic afternoon of football led by the girls from Holy Child, Long Tower, Steelstown and Ballougry Primary Schools. Unfortunately, some schools had to pull out due to school commitments. It is a busy time of year.
Today, however, we decided to join two schools together to create a bigger team and play 11 v 11. This was to give the girls ownership of a position, to understand the importance of communication and most importantly; to get out of their comfort zone and become friendly with girls from other schools.
I must admit, it was amazing to referee the games today (thank god VAR wasn't installed) and to watch the girls listen to previous instructions from their coaches. From Long Towers 'Tika Taka' passing approach to Steelstown's 'shoot on sight' approach, we must remember many of these girls are playing for the first time.
